What's New?

The Veteran Business Enterprise (VBE) and Veteran Woman Business Enterprise (VWBE) applicants will undergo the same rigid process for certification that NWBOC has had in place for women owned businesses since 1995. The VBE certification process consists of a thorough review of a company's application to ensure it is at least 51.0 percent owned and controlled by a veteran. If the applicant company is owned by a female veteran, she will also receive the VWBE certification at no extra charge. Both certifications denote that a veteran has majority ownership and control of a business entity. VBE / VWBE Certification is not based on gender, race, or company size.

NWBOC has noticed a trend, and is leading the way in providing information useful to women business owners. The trend is that large corporations and government entities that have long had supplier diversity programs are now asking if their women owners also have a supplier diversity plan of their own. Announcing a new national awards program, The NWBOC Eclipse Awards, Honoring Excellence in Women's Business Ownership
As entrepreneurs and business owners, most of us love being in on the ground floor of something big. This is your chance to get in on the inaugural year of a new, national awards program! We are proud to announce the launch of our signature recognition program, the NWBOC Eclipse Awards. This national awards program was created to celebrate the exceptional achievements of women business owners and to commend those corporations and government entities that seek to exemplify the highest standards in their commitment to diversity.  Awards were presented at the Decades of Excellence II conference in May, 2014.

See our press release dated 10/10/2013, "Government Shutdown Severely Affects Women Business Owners," which quotes some of our certified owners. One example is the fact that some businesses are expected to continue to perform and pay their employees and subcontractors, while receiving no checks from the government.

Announcing the 2014 dates for Decades of Excellence, NWBOC's national event:  MAY 7-9, 2014 at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. We encourage you to hold May 7-9, 2014 on your calendar and make it a priority to attend! 2014 Sponsorship and vendor information here. Quote from the 2013 event: “I attended the Decades of Excellence event – what an invaluable networking venue! I came away with nuggets of information I didn't previously have, and made at least eight great contacts, who I have communicated with since the event.” -- Maralah Rose-Asch, A2Z Oils

NWBOC President Janet Harris-Lange was the keynote speaker at the Sept. 12, 2013 event titled "Women Business Owners:  A Key to Keeping Erie Great." NWBOC Board of Director's member Linda Stevenson was a panelist. Location:  Erie, PA; Event sponsored by Knox McLaughlin Gornall & Sennett.

The successful 2013 Decades of Excellence celebration received rave reviews from attendees. The event recap is here.
"I wanted to thank all of you for a very well put together conference. I thoroughly enjoy every minute of it, meeting new women in business and talking with some of the speakers was so refreshing and so glad I made the trip. 5 stars to all of you in working so hard on this. So many people think because you own your own business it's a piece of cake and you have no problems, it was nice to hear that others have issues also. -- Nancy Stachnik, Pro-Pak Products, Ltd.

NWBOC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Association of Women Business Owners California organization (NAWBO-CA). New "Fast Track" WBE Certification with NWBOC
NWBOC has added a new "Fast-Track" application for women business owners who are currently WBE certified and want to add another certification. "If we have evaluated and approved the process for their current third party certification, there is no need for a woman business owner to have to wait or pay a higher fee when there is less work on our behalf to confirm this certification," said Janet Harris Lange, NWBOC President. We started the Fast-Track application in response to requests from WBEs who wanted a streamlined process. "In these tough economic times, businesses are looking for every edge they can get," said Harris-Lange. "They are getting multiple certifications so no stone is left unturned in the possibilities of the marketplace, whether it is corporate or government."

The Biddies have been launched!  NWBOC invited their certified WBEs to form local networks to share ideas, procurement opportunities, tips, etc. Groups meet at local coffee shops and since everyone is trying to win "bids," they have been dubbed "The Biddies."  The response was overwhelming.  In a couple of days about 30 groups formed. If any of you want to take the lead on this, NWBOC will send you a list of certified companies in your area and NWBOC will buy the first round of coffee.  NWBOC will also send out an evite for you which will produce the RSVP list. Here is a testimonial from an NWBOC Certified:  "The first two meetings of the Palm Beach "Biddies" were productive and informative. The cross section of businesses represented by other female professionals was diverse. Sharing our stories, both personal and professional, was great. On a personal level, Ariela Owens, Sunray Construction Services Inc., and Sandie Foland, Baron Sign Manufacturing, have been very helpful in providing information on contacts and opportunities to help me grow my business. I recommend these meetings to all women business owners as a valuable networking tool." Thank you, Denise DeDecker, Pres. Florida Windows and Doors, Inc.
